Great South Bay Lecture
Dr. Charles Flagg will speak on "The Great South Bay, the Breach, and Future Prospects" on Saturday, June 13 at 4p in Point O'Woods.
Dr. Flagg is a Research Professor at Stonybrook University who studies the effect of climate change on coastal systems. He is also the Director of The Great South Bay project (http://po.msrc.sunysb.edu/GSB/ ), which is funded by New York State to develop an ecosystem-based management approach to address the ecological problems besetting the Bay.
This lecture is open to all interested Fire Island residents and promises to be an interesting and informative presentation on the breach specifically, but also on the larger issue of the impact of sea level rise on the Great South Bay. As we search for strategies to mitigate the increased flooding on the Bay Side of the Island, we must understand not only the factors that are causing it, but also what we can expect in the future.
This lecture is a part of the Robert F. Sayre lecture series.
